Presidential candidates final list to be released today
The final list of candidates for the February 18 presidential elections will be released today. The deadline for registration of candidates ends today, according to the schedule set by Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission (CEC).
15 candidates had initially submitted registration documents to CEC. Of them, seven failed to pay an election pledge of AMD 8 million stipulated by election law and left the presidential race.
Currently there are eight candidates who have paid the election pledge: Serzh Sargsyan (RPA), Hrant Bagratyan (Liberty party) as well as self-nominated candidates Paruyr Hayrikyan, Raffi Hovannisian, Andrias Ghukasyan, Arman Melikyan, Vardan Sedrakyan and Aram Harutyunyan.
The election campaign will begin on January 21 and will run until February 16.
