Sergey Shakaryants: Unrealistic to hope for serious election struggle
I think it is unrealistic to hope for serious struggle during the upcoming presidential elections, political analyst Sergey Shakaryants told a news conference in Yerevan.
“One month is left until the presidential elections are held, but there is an impression that the elections themselves do not spark much interest. Naturally, this situation was formed not in January but much earlier. Unfortunately or fortunately, the hopes for holding competitive elections did not come true. Among the eight candidates, incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan is the more or less real contender for victory. The context of domestic political events does not prompt that any unexpected developments are possible,” Shakaryants noted, adding that he hopes the opposition will not attempt to repeat the events of 2008.
