Armenia’s election body to meet to consider applications of presidential candidates
Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission (CEC) will hold today two sessions – regular and extraordinary, CEC press service said.
At the regular session, the election body will consider the applications of presidential candidates Arman Melikyan, Andrias Ghukasyan and ex-candidate Ruben Ayvazyan.
On January 15, registered candidate Andrias Ghukasyan sent a letter to CEC chairman Tigran Mukuchyan demanding the invalidation of the registration of presidential candidate Serzh Sargsyan before the start of the election campaign, saying that otherwise he will go on an indefinite hunger strike.
Arman Melikyan told the CEC chairman to make public official statistical data about citizens who have obtained dual citizenship since Armenia’s independence, citizens who have left the country as well as citizens who have given up their Armenian citizenship, in order to prevent doubts about the number of voters during the presidential elections.
At the extraordinary session, Armenia’s election body will consider the application of Robert Simonyan who submitted registration papers to CEC.
CEC chairman Tigran Mukuchyan will be the rapporteur.
