Iran welcomes process aimed at entering Yerevan’s Blue Mosque on UNESCO's World Heritage List
Iran welcomes the process aimed at entering Yerevan’s Blue Mosque on UNESCO's World Heritage List, Iran’s state-run news agency IRNA quoted Masoud Alavian Sadr, deputy head of Iranian Cultural Heritage Organization, as saying during a meeting with Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Nazim Samadov.
In response to Azerbaijan’s concerns that the mosque may be damaged during the renovation process, the Iranian official said, in part, “In a country where the state religion is Christianity, registering the Blue Mosque as a religious monument creates more preconditions for its preservation. Besides, Iranian specialists participated in the mosque renovation.”
Earlier, Masoud Alavian Sadr told Iran’s news agency Fars in an interview that during a meeting with Armenian Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan as part of her visit to Tehran, they reached an agreement to take necessary action to enter Yerevan’s Blue Mosque on the UNESCO's World Heritage List after it is completely renovated.
