Presidential candidate Arman Melikyan confident authorities will make necessary efforts to disclose shooting of Hayrikyan
I offer my support to both Paruyr Hayrikyan and the authorities, presidential candidate Arman Melikyan said while visiting presidential candidate, chairman of National Self-Determination Union Paruyr Hayrikyan who is being treated for a gunshot wound at Yerevan’s Surb Grigor Lusavorich Medical Center after being shot by unknown gunmen late on Thursday evening in the capital.
When asked if he thinks there were political reasons for the shooting, Melikyan said that it is still early to talk about it and it is up to law enforcers to determine the reason.
“I am confident that the authorities will make necessary efforts to disclose the shooting,” the candidate added.
Armenian presidential candidate, chairman of National Self-Determination Union Paruyr Hayrikyan was shot and wounded by unknown gunmen in Yerevan at 23:30 local time Thursday.
A criminal case was opened in connection with the incident.
According to Armenia's constitution, the election could be postponed by two weeks if a candidate is unable to campaign or run. In the event of a candidate's death, a new election is called, to be held within 40 days.
