Paruyr Hayrikyan has not yet applied to Constitutional Court
Presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan, who was shot in Yerevan on January 31, has not yet applied to the Constitutional Court for election postponement, head of Hayrikyan’s election headquarters, Manya Ayvazyan, told Panorama.am.
“I cannot say when Mr Hayrikyan will make a statement. Everything will become clear at our news conference tomorrow. I can only say that unless Hayrikyan applies to the Constitutional Court today, we will not do it later,” Mrs Ayvazyan added.
Presidential candidate, chairman of National Self-Determination Union Paruyr Hayrikyan was shot and wounded by unknown gunmen in Yerevan at 23:30 local time Thursday. He was taken to Surb Grigor Lusavorich Medical Center, where he underwent surgery on February 1. A criminal case was opened in connection with the incident.
According to Armenia's constitution, the election could be postponed by two weeks if a candidate is unable to campaign or run. In the event of a candidate's death, a new election is called, to be held within 40 days.
