‘‘Doctrine’’: From the beginning of 2013 11 soldiers of Azerbaijani Armed Forces have been killed
Since the beginning of 2013 in the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan 11 soldiers have been killed and 5 more have been wounded or injured, the data of media monitoring carried out by the center of Azerbaijani military investigative journalism called “Doctrine” said.
According to the Azerbaijani news agency “Salamnyuz” two of 11 Azerbaijani soldiers were killed in combat and 9 in non-combat conditions.
On February 11, 2013 a military helicopter of Azerbaijani Defense Ministry MI-17 was crashed, as a result of which the three crew members were killed.
In 2012, according to the "Doctrine", the Center of the Azerbaijani military investigative journalism, 97 soldiers died in the armed forces of Azerbaijan, 77 of which died in non-combat condition, due to suicides, diseases, shooting at each other, accidents and other causes. In the same time, according to the “Doctrine”, the number of suicides, in 2012, in the army of Azerbaijan reached its pick during the last 10 years.
In the first half of January, the death of Azerbaijani soldier Jayhoon Gubadov (born in 1994) caused a great resonance. He served in Dashkesan region in a military unit of the Ministry of Defense. He had been drafted to the Azerbaijani army two months before and on January 6 he “died as a result of heart disease.” However, the relatives of the deceased passed the media the image and video of the body of the soldier where clearly were visible the signs of violation. On 12 January 2012 a protest against the deaths of Azerbaijani soldiers in non-combat situations was held in Baku. The police in Baku broke up the rally where the mothers of soldiers that were killed in the army were present.
In 2012 a scandal occurred in Azerbaijan over allegations of several parents of dead soldiers in the army. They claimed that their sons were killed for their organs to be sold.
