Azerbaijan: Detained Gular Akhmedova’s health condition worsens
The health condition of the ex-MP of Azerbaijan Gular Akhmedova against whom a preventive measure in the form of arrest was used, has worsen, the Azerbaijani news agency APA said.
“Today I met with Gular Akhmedova who is imprisoned in Detention Unit of Baku. She has a health problem. After a medical examination lung expansion was diagnosed. The level of her blood sugar had increased, and she has pains in her heart,” said Akhmedova’s attorney Gadimi Eldar, after meeting with his client.
In connection to Akhmedova’s deteriorating health Azerbaijani website “Haqqin.az” writes, that doctors’ conclusion causes a misunderstanding. The diagnosis itself will seem very strange to people who understand anything in medicine. As we all know as a result of X-ray examination of the chest doctor- roentgenologist gives a description of the size and condition of the heart and lungs.
“Maybe this type of examination was conducted by Gular Akhmedova and at the conclusion of the description the phrase "roots of the lungs are expanded" appears however, this cannot be considered as a diagnosis. Not to mention the fact that if the conclusion of the description says “roots are expended compressed that is to say you can be almost healthy, but even if there are any complaints, then it may be indicative of bronchitis, pulmonary inflammation, etc.,” the article says.
As the author notes, perhaps, the lawyer, for obvious reasons, made a mistake in the interpretation of medical opinion or medical service was not sufficiently competent.
By the decision of Sabail court, Baku carried out preventive measures against former MP of Azerbaijan Gular Akhmedova arresting her for 2 months. Late in September 2011 a video was spread in the Internet where the former rector of International University of Azerbaijan Elshad Abdullayev was bargaining with Azerbaijani MP Gular Ahmedova about the amount of the bribe which the rector was to pay to be “elected” as MP. After the video was covered in the Internet a criminal case on “fraud” was opened. Guler Ahmadova appealed to Parliament to rescind her mandate, and on October 3, CEC recognized her mandate invalid.
Abdullayev said that he applied to various state bodies of Azerbaijan in connection with the abduction of his brother. He also noted that he had met with the head of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Ramiz Mehdiyev and had discussed with him a number of questions. Mehdiyev declared Abdullayev’s all statements “libel”, but he did not deny the fact that the meeting had taken place.
