Gagik Minasyan: Number one opposition figure emerges in political arena
The Armenian presidential election shows significant progress as assessed not only by international observers but also by many citizens, MP, member of RPA executive body Gagik Minasyan told reporters today.
Minasyan rated as important the fact that leader of Heritage party Raffi Hovannisian, who came second in the election, won at 7 electoral districts out of 41.
According to him, currently there are two ways of development. The first is examination of complaints by law enforcement bodies, making legal decisions based on these results, summing up final election results and announcement of the name of the elected president. The second is an undesirable scenario including Raffi Hovannisian’s self-proclamation as president.
In case of the first scenario, both Serzh Sargsyan and Raffi Hovannisian may face challenges, Minasyan said.
“In this case Serzh Sargsyan will have to prove that he is able to fulfill his promises with the help of his team. I can say exactly that he is able to implement these programs.”
“As for Raffi Hovannisian, he really has serious potential. 37 percent of votes is a serious political capital. In this situation, we can establish that number one opposition figure has emerged in the political arena,” Minasyan concluded.
