Serzh Sargsyan: Raffi Hovannisian said he did not win the elections
Serzh Sargsyan presented the details of his February 21 meeting with Raffi Hovannisian at a news conference on Monday, noting that both the Heritage party leader and the people who did not attend the meeting are disseminating misinformation, according to Aravot.am.
After the journalists left, Serzh Sargsyan asked Raffi Hovannisian if he believes he won the February 18 presidential elections. Hovannisian’s answer was negative. According to Serzh Sargsyan, Raffi Hovannisian, however, added that his supporters are sure that Serzh Sargsyan did not win either.
The Heritage leader expressed his indignation at Serzh Sargsyan celebrating his win with a glass of champagne in his hand before the official election results were announced. In response, Serzh Sargsyan said that he thanked his team without champagne after the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) reported preliminary results from constituencies. Further, Sargsyan and Hovannisian discussed the ways out of the current situation.
The Central Electoral Commission of Armenia on February 25 announced the final results of the presidential elections in Armenia. According to them, Serzh Sargsyan won the elections with 58.64% of the votes, while his closest rival, Raffi Hovannisian, received 36.75% of the votes. Hovannisian disagrees with the election results and is holding mass protest actions. On March 4, representatives of Raffi Hovannisian and former candidate Andrias Ghukasyan handed an appeal to the Constitutional Court disputing the results of the February 18 presidential elections in Armenia.
Raffi Hovannisian began hunger strike at Liberty Square on March 10 evening.
