Secretariat of the inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States catches Azerbaijani media lying
Azerbaijani information internet resource "Dey.az" in one of the recent publications made serious mistakes regarding interpretation of the events that took place in Nagorno-Karabakh in February 1992, the statement of press service of the Secretariat of inter-Parliamentary Assembly of CIS Member States reads.
According to the statement, it is about an article titled "Armenian provocation at a meeting of the CIS IPA in St. Petersburg was prevented" on 26 February 2013, in which the authors had published invalid data. “Judging by the material, they allegedly presented the words of the Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijani Republic, as well as the representative of the Milli Mejlis to IPA CIS”, the statement said.
According to the press service of the Secretariat of IPA CIS Council, the information and the tone presented by the Azerbaijani agency, in which the publication of online resource "Dey.az" is kept, distort the circumstances that took place at the meeting of the Standing Committee. Press service of the Secretariat of IPA CIS states that the words which said that "the question raised was decently supported by all deputies, representatives of Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus and other countries" are not true.
"The attendees of the meeting of Standing Committee did not discuss the information of the Azerbaijani side. It is known that the Khojalu events are treated differently in Azerbaijan and Armenia", the press service states.
The journalists give another quote: The "legal rationale of the question was met with understanding by the IPA members and the Standing Committee."
"This fact was not found there too, the audio track of the session confirms this," the statement reads.
Press service of the Secretariat of the IPA CIS Council believes that such materials have a negative impact on the image of inter-Parliamentary states – CIS attendees. IPA CIS first of all is a platform for international communication. It is aimed at uniting the people and not to provoke a confrontation in real life and in cyberspace.
Press service stresses that the disposition of the inter-Parliamentary Assembly is repeatedly voiced by the Chairman of the IPA CIS Council and the latter says that the mutual claims between the two countries should be resolved within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.
As the statement says, the President of the IPA CIS stressed that the parliamentarians could focus on organizing ties and meetings with the intellectuals, scientists and artists of Azerbaijan and Armenia in order to create such an atmosphere of trust. "It will be difficult to find practical and a legal solution to the problem without confidence. The role of Parliament in this – in promoting the dialogue," said the Chairman of the IPA CIS Council.
