Sergey Minasyan: Yerevan elections have key importance for Prosperous Armenia Party
The May 5 elections of Yerevan Council of Elders have key importance for the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), political analyst Sergey Minasyan told Panorama.am in an interview.
“I believe these elections will be very important for PAP because this is a chance of a so-called political requital. PAP will exert maximum efforts to restore the positions it had after the parliamentary elections or at least to come closer to the results of the parliamentary elections, meaning that PAP may win back most of the votes that went to Heritage,” Minasyan said.
As for the Republican Party of Armenia, it confidently approaches Yerevan elections, mostly due to the results of the February 18 presidential elections. The party’s leader won the presidential elections, which further increases the party’s confidence, the expert said.
Minasyan noted that it is difficult to assess the chances of “Barev, Armenia” bloc because to answer this question, one should know how Heritage will come out of the current situation.
“Regarding the Armenian National Congress, I think this party is in a serious situation, mostly because unlike PAP, ANC lacks financial and human resources. Besides, the position it used to have in the public arena is now occupied by Raffi Hovannisian,” Minasyan said.
Orinats Yerkir Party also has chances to be elected to Yerevan Council of Elders, the expert said.
“As for ARFD, under the current situation, much will depend on the possible actions of the Heritage party because depending on the turn of events, many of the votes of ARFD may go to “Barev, Armenia” bloc and vice versa. Unless Raffi Hovannisian finds an optimal way out of the situation, it is very likely that he will lose part of the electorate of ARFD and PAP,” Minasyan concluded.
