Karen Kocharyan: Raffi Hovannisian and his supporters lost the square and try to take back what they lost
As far as I understand it, the actions Raffi Hovannisian and his team took did not help them and caused problems, if not to say that they were a failure. They lost the square and now they try to take something back, political technologist Karen Kocharyan told Panorama.am in an interview.
Heritage leader Raffi Hovannisian announced during a rally on Friday that on April 1, he will launch a four-day regional tour, for what he called a “national enlistment campaign,” during which he will recruit a citizens’ army for the liberation of the New Armenia.
Asked if Raffi Hovannisian’s regional tour is aimed at raising his approval rating in Yerevan ahead of the May 5 elections of Yerevan Council of Elders, or maybe it is aimed at raising his approval rating in the Armenian regions, the political technologist said, “He wants to do it everywhere. There is no issue of whether he wants to raise his approval rating in Yerevan or in the regions.”
Kocharyan believes that Hovannisian will make visits to the regions until April 9, while starting April 9 he will be active in Yerevan.
According to Kocharyan, with his regional tour the Heritage leader tries to take back what he lost.
According to the official results of the presidential elections in Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan won the elections with 58.64% of the votes, while his closest rival, Raffi Hovannisian, received 36.75% of the votes. Hovannisian disagrees with the election results and is holding mass protest actions. He began hunger strike at Liberty Square on March 10. Hovannisian said during the March 29 rally that he will end the hunger strike on Easter Sunday.
