Armen Yeritsyan will be Taron Margaryan’s closest rival in Yerevan elections, says Orinats Yerkir Party leader
Leader of Orinats Yerkir Party, secretary of Armenia’s National Security Council Arthur Baghdasaryan does not share the opinion of some of his coalition partners that Taron Margaryan will be reelected as Yerevan Mayor and that the elections of Yerevan Council of Elders will be held to determine the runner-up.
According to him, Taron Margaryan’s closest rival will be not an opposition candidate but Orinats Yerkir Party’s number one candidate, Armen Yeritsyan.
“Emergency Minister Armen Yeritsyan is a good organizer and he has proved it by creating a strong ministry in a short time. I am confident that during Yerevan elections, the main struggle will be between Armen Yeritsyan and Taron Margaryan,” Baghdasaryan told Panorama.am in an interview.
“Many things can be changed in Yerevan. We have a competitive program, and we go for the elections with the determination of winning,” Baghdasaryan said.
“We received 6 percent of votes in the 2009 Yerevan elections. But it should be noted that it was a year after the 2008 presidential elections, with the public moods being contradictory. We joined the coalition government, and we did not receive absolute support, but we received 33,000 votes, which was not a small number for Yerevan. We received much votes in Yerevan during the 2012 parliamentary elections and I am sure we will win these elections and will have maximum participation in the management of Yerevan,” Baghdasaryan said.
In conclusion, Baghdasaryan stressed that they have their vision of Yerevan’s development and that Yerevan residents will see the difference between the programs of RPA and OYP to be able to make their choice based on it.
The Central Electoral Commission of Armenia (CEC) has registered the lists of all seven political forces for the May 5 elections of Yerevan Council of Elders. Six parties (Republican Party of Armenia, Orinats Yerkir Party, Prosperous Armenia Party, Armenian National Congress, ARFD, Mission) and one bloc (“Barev, Yerevan”) run in Yerevan elections. The election campaign will kick off on April 7, and will run through May 3.
