Former Iranian general: More than 2,000 Afghan militants fought on part of Azerbaijan in Karabakh war
I have been a special adviser to Heydar Aliyev during the Karabakh war, Vice Chairman of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Mansour Haghighat-Pour was quoted as saying by Arannews.ir.
Mansour Haghighat-Pour, who was one of the commanders of Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and the governor of Ardabil Province, in response to a critical letter from Siyavush Novruzov, a representative of Azerbaijan’s ruling party Yeni Azerbaijan, wrote, in part, “I have been a special adviser to former Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev during the Karabakh war. So, casting a doubt on the truthfulness of my words, you indirectly blame your late President. I even remember that once, during a military parade, Heydar Aliyev said he wanted to award me Azerbaijan’s Order of Honor.”
The former Iranian general went on to say that through the efforts of chief of the Special Purpose Police Detachment of Azerbaijan Rovshan Javadov, more than 2,000 Afghan militants (Mojaheds) were transferred from Afghanistan to Azerbaijan to fight against Armenians.
As noted on the official website of Mansour Haghighat-Pour (haghighatpour.ir), as a military adviser, he directly participated in the arming and combat preparedness of the Azerbaijani army during the Karabakh war.
