Azerbaijani special services tried to disrupt a film festival on human rights topic
As the Azerbaijani news agency "Turan" reports, the organizers of the festival of documentary films titled “CAUCADOC, our rights and our future" had problems with finding a place for organizing it in Baku. All cinemas in there and large hotels refused to provide them a place. Thus, the event was planned at the office of “EL” movement; the latter, however, was evicted from its office.
As noted in the article, at the last moment they managed to negotiate with Civil Solidarity Party of Azerbaijan to hold the festival in their office. But here as well the authorities of Azerbaijan couldn’t help to intervene.
"Before the festival would begin the representatives of the executive power of Khatai district entered the hall for "carrying out reconnaissance" and then several cars with the police officers came to the place. They were told that the event had educational nature and the intruders left the office. However, soon, the representatives of MNS arrived at the event. They started to watch the movies for insuring in their trustworthiness," the article reads.
Ulvi Hasanli, the Head of the "Free Youth" movement said that the festival will go on for three days and six films will be presented. After viewing each film an expert evaluation will be given and discussions will be held.
Sharka Zahradnikova, the manager of CAUCADOC said that the project is aimed at the developing documentary films in the South Caucasus.
"Turan" notes that the festival is held by the Azerbaijani human rights organization "Art for the sake of democracy," youth movement "Free Youth" in corporation with CAUCADOC which is a regional film project, implemented by the Czech Development Agency.
