One of Azerbaijani villages is to be rename into Heydarabad in honor of current President’s father - Heydar Aliyev
A group of villagers from Zabrat in Sabunchu district of Baku offers to rename the village into Heydarabad in honor of the former Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev who is also the father of the current president - Ilham Aliyev. According to the Azerbaijani news agency "Haqqn.az" in the near future the residents of the village will gather signatures for implementation of this initiative.
According to the representative of the official structures of Sabunchu, who asked not reveal his name, for this reason, an appeal will be sent to the Parliament of Azerbaijan soon on behalf of the head of the village.
There have been such proposals in Azerbaijan earlier as well. Thus, a few years ago, the administration of one of the major cities of Azerbaijan - Yevlakh addressed to the President of the Republic with the request to rename their town into Heydarabad. The mayor of Baku Hajibala Abutalibov went even further, proposing to rename the Azerbaijanis into Heydarini, and Azerbaijan, respectively, into Heydaristan.
