Khosrov Harutyunyan: Raffi Hovannisian missed a unique political chance
The presidential elections gave a unique possibility to form opposition, which would be a serious counterbalance to the authorities. But this opportunity was missed, Christian Democratic Party leader Khosrov Harutyunyan told reporters on Tuesday.
Raffi Hovannisian’s historical mission should have been turning the 540,000 votes into a serious political capital, rather than seeking power, Harutyunyan said.
“I told Raffi Hovannisian that he should have accepted the reality, even if he did not accept the election results, and should have negotiated with the authorities on giving additional leverage to the opposition,” said the speaker.
Harutyunyan noted that a considerable part of Raffi Hovannisian’s electorate is disappointed and is turning towards other parties, especially as ANC, PAP and ARFD take an active part in political processes within the framework of municipal elections.
