Armenian Genocide recognition process is irreversible – Gevorg Melkonyan
The process of recognition of the Armenian Genocide is irreversible. The joint efforts of the Turkish and Azerbaijani authorities to stop the Genocide recognition process will fail, and Turkish intellectuals themselves say it, historian Gevorg Melkonyan told reporters on Tuesday.
The Turkish authorities are concerned about the events that will be held on the threshold of Genocide Centenary. The Turkish government has created a body, coordinated by the Deputy Prime Minister, to hinder these events and the Genocide recognition process, said the historian.
Armenia and the Diaspora should not allow other countries to use the issue of Armenian Genocide for exerting pressure on Turkey and gaining dividends, Melkonyan said.
The expert stressed the importance of popular diplomacy, creation of a common database of the Genocide victims and the repressed people and publication and spreading of foreign-language books on the Armenian Genocide.
