Cult of personality in Azerbaijan grows: Heydar Aliyev will be immortalized on one kilogram gold coins
On Friday the head of the National Bank of Azerbaijan, Elman Rustamov, presented golden coins, made on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev. Commemorative coins have been made in three forms: one troy ounce (31.1 grams), ten ounces and one kilo. As the Azerbaijani Information Agency Turan reports, the coins have been made of high quality gold in the mint in the United Kingdom.
Heydar Aliyev is depicted on the background of the crescent and eight-pointed star. According to Elman Rustamov, the coins meet "the highest aesthetic requirements." Presentation of the coins that have been issued in the amount of three million pieces, was held at the conference titled, "Heydar Aliyev and the financial and credit system: Achievements and Challenges."
“The formation of personality cult of Heydar Aliyev began during his lifetime, and this process has been lasting since his death. Streets and parks, various objects (including the airport in Baku and refineries) are named in honor of the former president. In the textbooks Heydar Aliyev is called a "great leader" and savior of Azerbaijan.
