Bhutto murder case prosecutor shot dead in Islamabad
The special prosecutor in former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's murder case has been shot dead, police say, according to BBC.
Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali was seriously injured by attackers on a motorcycle in the capital, Islamabad, and later died from his injuries, they said.
At least one other person was reportedly killed in the shooting. A police investigation is now under way.
Ms Bhutto died in a gun and bomb attack during her 2007 election campaign.
Police say Mr Ali was driving to the anti-terrorism court for a hearing on Friday morning when his car was ambushed.
The attackers on a motorcycle then sprayed the car with bullets.
Mr Ali was badly injured and was later pronounced dead at Islamabad hospital.
A woman pedestrian was also killed and Mr Ali's bodyguard was injured. Earlier reports suggested two people had died.
The incident happened in G-9 sector of Islamabad, where the prosecutors lived.
The Pakistani authorities blamed the Taliban for Ms Bhutto's assassination in the city of Rawalpindi at the time.
Several officials, including former President Pervez Musharraf, were later accused of failing to provide enough security for Ms Bhutto after she returned from exile.
A UN inquiry in 2010 found that her murder could have been prevented.
Mr Musharraf - who dismisses the accusations as politically motivated - is currently under house arrest over the assassination.
Mr Ali's killing comes less than two weeks before Pakistan's national elections.
