Observer says Yerevan municipal elections were another step towards democracy
Local self-government elections should not be compared to presidential elections. But compared to the previous local self-government elections, these elections were another step towards democracy, chairman of Electoral Systems Center NGO Vahram Vardanyan told a news conference on Monday. He noted that psychological and physical pressure on observers decreased at the municipal elections held on May 5.
The head of the observer organization said that the violations committed on the election day did not have a major impact on the election results and that the violations such as abuse of administrative resource, distribution of electoral bribe were mainly committed during the election campaign.
The observers of the Electoral Systems Center added that they registered no case of bribe giving, but heard about them from others.
