Reliable, trustworthy and exemplary electoral processes: Analysis by Republican MP
“Reliable, trustworthy and exemplary electoral processes.” This is how secretary of Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) parliamentary faction Hovhannes Sahakyan characterized the 2012 parliamentary elections and the 2013 presidential and Yerevan municipal elections.
Citing the final report of the OSCE/ODIHR election observation mission for the Armenian presidential elections, the MP noted that the report described the elections as well managed.
“At the same time, what caught my attention is the fact that the public does not have much trust in electoral processes. We all are responsible for this omission, and we all should ensure confidence – both pro-government and opposition forces as well as the media,” Sahakyan said.
Citing the conclusions presented by the OSCE/ODIHR election observation mission, the Republican MP said that in the coming three or four years they could revise the Electoral Code of Armenia so as to liquidate the shortcomings revealed during these three elections.
