A bum on Baku streets calls himself son of Richard Sorge
A man calling himself the son of Soviet agent, Soviet Union Hero Richard Sorge, lives as homeless on the streets of Baku, the Azerbaijani news agency "ANS Press" reports.
"The man, by whose father's name is named a street and a park in Baku, has no shelter. He was left without an apartment and he does not even receive a pension. They even claim that he had lost his apartment," the article says.
The man said that the only thing he was dreaming about was a hot meal.
Richard Sorge was born in 1895 in Baku, in family of German mining engineer. In 1914, he volunteered to German army, participated in the First World War in 1914-1918. In 1924 he arrived in the Soviet Union.
During the Second World War, he managed to disclose plans for the German attack on the Soviet Union. In October 18, 1941, Sorge was arrested by the Japanese police, and only in September 1943, was sentenced to death. November 5, 1964 was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for preventing the attack of the Japanese on the Soviet Union.
