The Times: Story about loss of votes given for Russia at Eurovision puts Azerbaijan in very awkward situation
The foreign ministers of Russia and Azerbaijan have temporarily postponed the "less urgent problems - like, the question of the border war between Azerbaijan and Armenia smoldering for "22-years," and have stressed that they will try to work together to resolve the crisis that had occurred during the "Eurovision," the British newspaper Times writes.
"This story puts Azerbaijan in a very awkward situation. Baku is trying to maintain good relations with its neighbor and is seeking for the support of Russia in a protracted dispute with Armenia over Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as in the global oil and gas business,” the article says.
The author believes that Russia and Azerbaijan treat the "Eurovision" very seriously.
"The European Broadcasting Union has already stated that is not going to carry out an inspection yet. Perhaps, Lavrov will not leave this statement without an answer," reads the article.
Russian singer Dina Garipova took the fifth place at the song contest, and in the final count of votes she didn’t get a single point from Azerbaijan. However, as Azerbaijani portal "Haqqin.az" reports, the official of the European Broadcasting Council stated that the organizers of the Eurovision Song Contest gave an official denial about the "loss" of votes which were given for Russia: "Everything was correct, we would learn about the violations."
