‘Nothing is impossible:’ PACE President hopes for reconciliation between Armenia and Azerbaijan
Armenia as the chairing country of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe has a historical opportunity to make a great contribution to the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, visiting PACE President Jean-Claude Mignon told reporters in Yerevan following the meeting of the PACE Standing Committee.
“Nothing is impossible. Germany and France reconciled. So, Armenia and Azerbaijan can reconcile too,” said the President of PACE.
Mr Mignon noted that as Council of Europe parliamentarians they will do their utmost to achieve peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the OSCE Minsk Group format.
The PACE President added that he met with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister in Azerbaijan several days ago and had an “interesting and positive” conversation with him. Tomorrow, Mignon will meet with the Armenian Foreign Minister.
“The role of the Parliamentary Assembly is to respect everyone’s approach. This is the guarantee of the success of talks. Without forgetting the past, we should look into the future,” Mr Mignon said.
