Helicopter carrying Iran's president makes emergency landing
A helicopter carrying Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made an emergency landing Sunday after it malfunctioned, CNN reported, citing state-run Press TV.
On board the chopper with the president were several officials who were on their way to inaugurate three road projects.
The Press TV report did not specify the problem the aircraft developed. But it said the pilot landed safely in a mountainous area in the northern part of the country.
After the inauguration ceremony, Ahmadinejad returned to the capital -- by car.
Ahmadinejad has served two terms as Iran's president and cannot run for a third straight term.
A total of 686 candidates have registered to replace him in elections scheduled for this month, Press TV reported.
