German Embassy in Baku denies misinformation of Azerbaijani media about the early withdrawal of Ambassador Herbert Quelle
Information about early withdrawal of Herbert Quelle, the German Ambassador to Azerbaijan, is not true, as ambassador to Azerbaijan continues working without any changes, Aytekin Magerramova, the press-secretary of the German embassy in Baku, reported, says the Azerbaijani news agency "APA".
On the eve Azerbaijani news agency "Haqqin.az" and another Azerbaijani news agency "1nyuz.az" published a lengthy article about German Ambassador Herbert Quelle’s withdrawal from Baku and also analyzed the reasons for the alleged recall of ambassador. In particular it was said as if the ambassador was recalled because of the criticism of the human rights situation in Azerbaijan.
Yesterday, Herbert Quelle, the German Ambassador to Azerbaijan spoke to reporters, touching upon the theme of economic relations between Germany and Azerbaijan. According to the Azerbaijani news agency "Trend", the ambassador stated that Germany supports the project of "Southern Gas Corridor". Mr. Quelle stated that the main thing is the gas exports to Europe, and not the choice of Nabuco West or TAP pipeline project.
Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany called on the Azerbaijani authorities to pay more attention to democratic issues, human rights, media, dialogue with civil society. Herbert Quelle also reported that in July, he is completing his diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan.
As the news agency "Haqqin.az" reports, the ambassador has noted that in Germany diplomats are appointed as ambassador for three years: "I was appointed to the post of ambassador to Azerbaijan in August 2010. The ambassador that was appointed in before me stayed in office for 4 years, but this was an exception, as he retired as soon as he completed his mission. "
