Ashot Vardevanyan: Armenia is not poor in water resources, but it spends too much water
25 percent of Armenian territory faces the danger of desertification, while 81 percent is subject to desertification, Ashot Vardevanyan, coordinator of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, told today’s news conference.
The speaker noted that some measures are being taken to tackle this problem; for instance, reservoirs and drainage systems are being restored.
“I think it is necessary to build small and medium sized reservoirs,” he said.
According to Vardevanyan, Armenia is not poor in water resources, but it spends too much water.
“Soon, wars will be waged not only for lands but also for water. Water is an expensive resource,” he said, urging to economize water resources.
