Residents of Armavir province hold protest against non-existing ban on apricot export to Georgia
Several hundreds of residents of Armavir province villages held a protest action today. Shamshyan.com reports that about 400 villagers, mostly from the villages of Myasnikyan, Khanjyan and Nairi, blocked the highway saying that officials from the Agriculture Ministry deceived them.
“Apricot harvest is being wasted because some people refuse to accept it and, besides, do not allow traders to export it to Georgia,” the villagers said.
They threatened to go to Yerevan on foot and continue their protest near the government building.
Armenian Deputy Agriculture Minister Robert Makaryan told Panorama.am that there is no ban on the export of apricots.
“There is no ban on the export of apricots, we encourage export,” he said, promising to personally visit Armavir and try to clear up the situation.
