Galliani: Montolivo will be Milan’s captain
Riccardo Montolivo has been named as the new captain of Milan – just a year after his arrival at San Siro, Football Italia reported.
The Rossoneri are looking for a new man to wear the armband after Massimo Ambrosini’s contract was not renewed.
The midfielder has beaten competition from veteran shot-stopper Christian Abbiati for the honour.
“Montolivo will be Milan’s captain,” Vice-President Adriano Galliani commented. “I’ve spoken with Abbiati and there are no problems.”
Italian international Montolivo, signed on a Bosman free transfer from Fiorentina, is thought to have caught the attention of Sevilla.
“Montolivo is not for sale,” Galliani continued. “We won’t be selling him to anybody.
“Anyway, at this moment in time, no Spanish club – apart from Barcelona and Real Madrid – can spend €20m for one player.”
