Gagik Harutyunyan: West also worried about Syria risks
The large-scale conflict in Syria can be viewed in several aspects, director of Noravank Foundation Gagik Harutyunyan told reporters in Yerevan.
“On the one hand, it is a local conflict, and is connected with Iran. It is the continuation of U.S-Iran, Israel-Iran conflicts. In the regional aspect, it is the disintegration of the Arab world as the Syria conflict should be viewed among the Arabic revolutions. In the global aspect, the chaos in the region poses risks to Russia and China,” he said, adding that the West is also worried about Syria risks.
As for the conflict’s challenges for Armenia, the speaker said that there are two kinds of risks. “The Armenian communities in the Middle East were the bearers of Western Armenian culture, but they are now leaving their settlements. Instability in Syria also poses certain danger to Armenia in consideration of Azerbaijan’s and Turkey’s assistance to Syria insurgents.”
