Andre Villas-Boas makes personal call to David Villa in attempt to push through Tottenham transfer
Andre Villas-Boas is hoping his personal call to David Villa will be enough to persuade the Barcelona striker to join him at Tottenham next season, Metro.co.uk reported.
Villa has just a year left on his Barca contract and is expected to depart the Nou Camp this summer, after the Catalan giants added to their attacking options with the purchase of Brazilian star Neymar.
Spurs have been chasing the 31-year-old for several months but face plenty of competition, with Serie A outfit Fiorentina and Premier League rivals Liverpool both reported to be interested.
However, Villas-Boas is optimistic his personal approach will see Villa opt for a move to north London.
The Tottenham boss first met with the player in Spain in February and has followed up that initial approach with a phone call to Villa, who has been away with the national team at the Confederations Cup in Brazil.
Villas-Boas is increasingly confident he has done enough to get his man, in a deal that would cost Spurs around £12million, with Villa expected to make a final decision this week.
