10th Annual Golden Apricot Film Festival kicks off in Yerevan
GOLDEN APRICOT 10th Yerevan International Film Festival kicked off in Yerevan on Sunday, July 7. The festival is scheduled for July 7 to 14. The festival theme is Crossroads of Cultures and Civilizations. The theme is anchored in the idea of a global human landscape in the process of transformation and the challenges such transformations pose to human beings.
Internationally acclaimed director Atom Egoyan (Canada) is Honorary Chairman of the Festival and noted director Harutyun Khachatryan (Armenia) is the General Director.
The festival’s opening was marked by the unveiling of the world famous chansonnier Charles Aznavour’s star in Charles Aznavour Square in Yerevan.
The opening ceremony of the festival took place at Al. Spendiaryan National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet.
Atom Egoyan gave Parajanov Thaler award to Charles Aznavour, saying that he is the most famous Armenian in the world.
During the ceremony, Armenian Culture Minister Hasmik Poghosyan read out the address of President Serzh Sargsyan.
Festival’s General Director, Harutyun Khachatryan, awarded a special prize to VivaCell-MTS General Director Ralph Yirikian for assisting the festival since it was launched 10 years ago.
The inaugural film of the festival, Shoot the Piano Player, was screened at National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet.
Serge Avedikian & Olena Fetisova's film Paradjanov will close the festival.
