EP rejects Suleymanov’s statement which says that Azerbaijan is not in list of countries where EP will conduct monitoring
The European Parliament will take a decision on sending observers for the presidential elections in Azerbaijan in September, said Marjory van den Broeke, the head of the press service of the European Parliament, the Azerbaijani news agency Turan reports.
She denied the reports of the list of countries where elections will be monitored by MEPs. According to her, there is a list of countries where in the second half of this year elections will be held.
"A week ago, members of parliament discussed which countries should be monitored. However, no decision was taken on any country. It can be adopted by the President of the Parliament and the leaders of the political groups in September," Broeke said.
According to her, the decision on election monitoring is accepted once in six months. To the question whether there was a proposal to stop monitoring of elections in Azerbaijan, Broeke gave negative answer.
As Turan notes, a Member of Parliament of Azerbaijan, Elkhan Suleymanov, told some media that the European Parliament excluded Azerbaijan from the list of countries that need to monitor the elections, because the situation in the country is quite democratic.
