Analyst: New logic and proposals needed in Karabakh settlement
The settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is deadlocked, political scientist Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan told reporters in Yerevan.
The main purpose of the meetings of Armenian and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers is to find ways out of this situation, he said.
“There is no notable achievement after the last meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers and the statement of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs,” Melik-Shahnazaryan said.
“The latest statement of the Presidents of the Co-Chair countries did not mention Madrid Principles, which is evidence of the fact that Madrid Principles have failed. A new logic and proposals are needed in the talks,” the speaker said.
Currently, the key task is to restore the atmosphere of confidence, which was undermined last August when axe murderer Ramil Safarov was extradited to Azerbaijan, where he was pardoned and pronounced a national hero, Melik-Shahnazaryan concluded.
