MFA speaker of Iran touches upon Azerbaijani school textbooks which have anti-Iranian content
“Historical-scientific discussions will be held in connection with the Azerbaijani school textbooks with anti-Iranian content,” IRI MFA speaker Seyyed Abbas Araghchi has reported to the journalists, reads Iranian FARS agency.
To the question what is the IRI MFA speaker’s opinion on the textbooks with anti-Iranian content he has replied, “Some of our historians have expressed their complaint in that concern. A discussion is expected to be held in close future between the historians of two countries in order to study that issue.”
It should be noted that among many issues Tehran and Baku have also disagreements about historical issues. According to Iranian media the Azerbaijani school textbooks present several northern states in Iran (around 400 thousand km) as a part of Azerbaijan. Recently the MPs of Azerbaijani Majlis came out with several initiatives according to which the country was suggested to be renamed as Northern Azerbaijan.
As for the present Azerbaijani Republic, both Iranian official and scientific sources believe that there has not been a state called Azerbaijan before 1918 and that that country has been formed on the Iranian territory called Aran and Shirvan.
