Defense Ministry: Armenian soldier died of sniper wound
The Armenian Defense Ministry issued a statement on the shooting of 2 Armenian servicemen that occurred at the Armenian-Azeri border yesterday.
The statement reads, in part: “Based on the obtained information, we have concluded that the Armenian servicemen were injured by Azeri sniper fire, at the distance of 700-800 meters.
We reiterate that henceforth Azerbaijan’s President and his administration will be responsible for the deaths of Armenian and Azeri soldiers. Under the circumstances, we attach a particular importance to the final coordination and use of a mechanism for investigation of border incidents and urge the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs to use their leverage to overcome the obstacles put by the Azeri regime against the establishment of that mechanism.
A criminal case was opened under Article 104 part 2 point 6 and 13 of the Criminal Code. An investigation is underway into the incident.”
