US media manipulate Syria events to justify possible attack - Don De Bar
Press TV has conducted an interview with Don De Bar, activist and political commentator in New York, about the chemicals found in militant-held tunnels in Damascus now controlled by army forces.
- Looking at this situation does it sound to you sort of like the WMD’s that we saw leading up to the Iraq war?
- Absolutely yes. Yes it does. First of all, the Russian media are now reporting and also Press TV I see are reporting that there have been a few thousand people in Damascus who showed up at the hospitals basically showing some symptoms of a nerve agent or some sort of toxic agent.
The history of this entire matter has been one where there have been exposures that were documented - It turned out that these were done by the US-backed rebels, the insurgents that are fighting the government in Syria.
What was particularly troubling to me is that a couple of days after we stopped being able to get Press TV over You Tube here and also interference with the website we started hearing reports in the American media about what they have been very slyly characterizing as an attack by the government on civilians, but not actually stating it - saying that it needed to be investigated.
And the US media, The New York Times was actually looking back to Kosovo and the whole Yugoslavian bombing campaign that Bill Clinton used as a model for what should be done in Syria right now.
This happened all of a sudden in the last two days. It looks to me like a Psy-Ops operation and it looks like the US actually intends to go in at this point. It makes me very nervous.
- Do you think they really will go into Syria?
- I honestly don’t know. They certainly don’t have any moral constraints. I’m hoping that there are some folks in the military who are level-headed enough to know that if they go into Syria in the way they went into Iraq, you know, with direct on the ground troops... And there are reports that there are some US boots on the ground in the periphery that went in through Israel - If that happens I hope some folks in the military know that they are going to get bogged down in a very, very ugly fight with probably the entire Syrian nation. And I’m hoping that if those voices are there that they’ll prevail.
But the political climate here and the lust for some to... I don’t know if they’re trying to expand Israel’s territorial borders or take out regional competition for Saudi Arabia or just show the rest of the world what happens to independent voices.
If that group of folks predominates in what happens, it’s going to be really a horrible situation for everyone.
