Ruben Sahakyan: Suren Khachatryan is not and will not be a defendant
Former governor of Syunik province, Suren Khachatryan, is not and will not be a defendant, and you should know this once and for all, Ruben Sahakyan, Chairman of the Chamber of Advocates of Armenia, a lawyer for Suren Khachatryan’s son, Tigran Khachatryan in the Goris murder case, told reporters on Wednesday.
Sahakyan said that he does not represent the interests of Suren Khachatryan, moreover, “Suren Khachatryan does not need protection.” On that tragic day of the murder the former Syunik governor was asleep in his home and heard nothing, he added.
Earlier, Artak Budaghyan's defense lawyer, Hayk Alumyan, said that Suren Khachatryan should face charges on at least two counts. On August 26, Emil Budaghyan, the father of Avetik Budaghyan, who died after being shot near the former Syunik governor’s house in Goris on June 1, sent an open letter to Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan asking to keep under control the impartiality of investigation within the framework of the Goris murder case.
