Sociologist mentions victories of Armenian civil society this summer
A big city like Yerevan needs a flexible system of public transportation fares, head of the Sociometer Center Aharon Adibekyan told a news conference today.
According to him, it is rather difficult to ensure the operation of municipal transport with the current fares. A new system needs to be developed taking into consideration the routes used by students, war veterans, residents of suburbs, etc., he added.
Adibekyan also dwelt on the tuition fee hike. He said that in no other country private universities have such low tuition fees as in our country, while university teachers in Armenia receive too low wages.
The sociologist hailed the fact that Yerevan Municipality and the government are not indifferent to dissatisfaction of citizens with various issues, and gave the example of the transportation fare protests when Yerevan Municipality made a decision to return to the previous fare of AMD 100 as well as setting a threshold for tuition fees.
