New Aleppo district in Armenia to house about 500 Syrian Armenian families
The allocation of plots of land in the city of Ashtarak of Armenia’s Aragatsotn province for the construction of New Aleppo district for Syrian Armenians is over, Firdus Zakaryan, Armenian Diaspora Ministry Chief of Staff, told Panorama.am in an interview.
Currently, the works are underway to test the ground’s solidity, Zakaryan said.
“The foundation laying ceremony will probably take place in October or November,” said the official, adding that the district is intended to house about 500 families.
Mr Zakaryan noted that many people have expressed readiness to support the project on charity bases.
“Also, we have applied to international organizations and many of them gave a positive response,” he said.
The construction project has already an investor, the Diaspora Ministry official said, adding that Grand Tobacco Company has transferred USD 100,000 to the project’s bank account.
“I am convinced that dozens of families will give house-warming parties there next autumn,” Zakaryan said.
