Car of Deputy Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan rammed a group of protesters; MoD urges citizens to respect new standards
Yesterday, in Baku, in front of the Officers House, a group of citizens blocked the road and tried to block the car of Deputy Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan, Lieutenant-General Chingiz Mammedov. However, as the Azeri news agency "Salamnews" reports, the officers who accompanied General ordered the driver not to stop. As a result, several people were injured. Citizens do not believe that the car run them down without the knowledge of the deputy minister.
In connection with the incident, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry issued a statement calling on citizens to respect the "new standards". Thus, the statement of Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reads: "Today, reforms are carried out in the field of military education, as well as in the rest of educational system of country. Therefore, MOD carries out admission to military schools by the means of State Commission on Student Admission. But parents want their children to be enrolled in these institutions despite the received low scores. We recommend these parents to respect the new standards applicable to military institutions."
Yesterday the Azerbaijani portal "Haqqin.az" reported that the citizens who had blocked the car of the Deputy Minister had demanded from him to get out of the car and to listen to their concerns. The reason for this served the fact that their children, who had studied at the Military Lyceum after Jamshid Nahichevanski, were forced to re-take the exam in order to be admitted to the Higher Military School. About 40 disgruntled parents had come to the deputy minister with a complaint; however the latter shrugged his shoulders and said he could do nothing. Subsequently, angry parents blocked his car.
