Many Azerbaijani media disseminate false information and speculations
"Sometimes there are very courageous journalists, and they are pressed by the government," the U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar said at the seminar “Media ethics in the electoral process,” the Azerbaijani news agency APA reports.
The U.S. ambassador of to Azerbaijan also noted, “Many media outlets in Azerbaijan are disseminating unreliable, false information and speculations. They quote incorrectly and disseminate unspecified information.”
Morningstar said that he notices such an approach both on the Internet, in pro-opposition and pro-government media outlets: “We call on the media and urge them to make adjustments. This harms the profession of journalist and disrepute their work in the eyes of readers. Sometimes very brave journalists come across, but they get under the government’s pressure.”
