Former presidential candidate sentenced to 14 years in prison
Vardan Sedrakyan, an expert in epics, who ran in the presidential elections of February 18, 2013, was sentenced to 14 years in prison, according to the court verdict read today by Gagik Poghosyan, judge of the court of general jurisdiction of Yerevan’s Kentron and Nork-Marash districts.
Sedrakyan was charged under Article 305 of the Criminal Code (assassination of state or political figure aimed at stopping his activities). Vardan Sedrakyan, running for the Armenian presidential elections of February 18, 2013, during the election campaign, ordered Samvel Harutyunyan and Khachatur Poghosyan to assassinate leader of the National Self-Determination Union Paruyr Hayrikyan who also ran for president.
Sedrakyan does not admit his guilt.
