Expert: None of Azeri presidential candidates will change anti-Armenian policy
There are 21 registered candidates for the Azerbaijani presidential elections and the upcoming elections can be called interesting, given the fact that only 7 candidates ran in the previous presidential elections, Azeri studies expert Sargis Asatryan told reporters in Yerevan when commenting on the October 7 presidential elections in Azerbaijan.
“This can be considered an attempt to prove something to the international community and to the West because we realize that only few of the 21 candidates are capable of gathering electorate and being a serious opposition to Ilham Aliyev who will do everything possible to be reelected,” the expert said.
When asked which of the presidential candidates is preferable for Armenia, Asatryan said that he sees no one in Azerbaijan who could change the anti-Armenian policy.
Asked if there is a debate between the presidential candidates and what kind of issues are being discussed, the Azeri studies expert said, “Some of the candidates say that after coming to power they will seize Karabakh and blame the authorities for doing nothing in this direction. They gather electorate in this way. There is no other more constructive debate.”
