Fernandinho seeks Champions League win to make Europe take notice
The Etihad Stadium was being dressed for the Champions League as Manchester City’s Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho contemplated the magnitude of Bayern Munich’s Champions League visit on Wednesday, Telegraph.co.uk reports.
“Last season, Bayern Munich were the team that played the best football and they became European champions, so if you beat them, people on the outside will notice,” Fernandinho said.
“It would be a huge statement to the football world if we could beat the best team in Europe, one of the best teams in the world. The projection would be much higher than beating United. That is why a win for us would be so important.
“After being at Shakhtar, I know how it feels to play for a lower club in Europe and you don’t benefit from decisions,” Fernandinho said. “They always end up on the other side. “Smaller teams have huge difficulties, but it is different playing for City and, when I play for a team like City, I feel like I can reach the final quicker.”
