Son of Azerbaijani oligarch-Minister did not manage to ‘‘spin’’ Ilham Aliyev in U.S. media
Son of Ziya Mammadov, Transport Minister of Azerbaijan, the founder of the "American Alliance of Azerbaijanis" Anar Mammadov has caused serious dissatisfaction in governmental circles of the country, reports the Azerbaijani news portal "Minval.az."
According to the source, he did not manage to "spin" Ilham Aliyev, the presidential candidate of the ruling party "Yeni Azerbaijan" in the American media.
Thus, Anar Mammadov was instructed to publish an article in the “Washington Post” newspaper written by a group of governmental copywriters. However, despite the fact that a few days are left prior to the Election Day the article has not appeared on the pages of the magazine yet.
"Meanwhile the governmental circles attach great importance to publishing articles in support of President Ilham Aliyev in the Washington Post. Some people believe that after the article is published in such a prestigious and internationally renowned newspaper the West may lessen the possible pressure in the post-election period,” the article stated.
"Minval.az" emphasizes that this is important for the government of Azerbaijan, because critical articles about the Azerbaijani government and its policy have been repeatedly published in this newspaper.
Portal notes that authorities of Azerbaijan have the support only from three of the five political institutions of the United States - the Pentagon, Congress, and the State Department (sectors related to security and energy). "The White House and the CIA do not have much sympathy towards the official Baku. Therefore it is not difficult to understand that publishing in the Washington Post an article, associated with the CIA in support of the government of Azerbaijan is not that easy," notes the author of the article.
