Yeni Musavat: Elbrus Orujov who yield up the city of Shushi is to become new Defense Minister of Azerbaijan
A number of shocking appointments are scheduled for the positions of the ministers after the upcoming presidential elections to be held on October 9 in Azerbaijan. The figure of the new defense minister, the weakest link of the Azerbaijani government, will be a surprise not only for the society but also for the political field. As the newspaper "Yeni Musavat" reports through its diplomatic sources, commandant general of Shushu Elbrus Orujov will take the office of the Minister of Defence.
This appointment is kept a close secret and Orujov is urgently summoned to Baku. Orujov, who is a military attaché at the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Uzbekistan at present, has served as a military attaché at the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Georgia from 2006 to 2012. He is considered to be a pro-NATO and mostly pro-American General and his appointment will be approved by the West.
While working as a military attaché, he established good relations with the generals and high-ranking officials of NATO and the United States. Earlier Orujov, whose brother Elman is a senior official in the Nakhijevan corpus, was commander of a military unit there. He was closely cooperating with the Turkish military-NATO representatives of the region. According to the source a very important period begins in the region for NATO in 2014.
"Despite the fact that Elbrus Orujov had fixed NATO’s attention at him, he is perceived ambiguously in the army and the society. He is accused of yielding up Shushi while being commandant of the city. Such an appointment will surely provoke discontent among the population," the newspaper writes and notes that Pashayevs clan is lobbying for the appointment of Orujov.
