Asatryan: Runoff unlikely at Azeri presidential elections
I think a runoff is unlikely at the Azeri presidential elections because for this, Azerbaijan needs to have a charismatic opposition leader, Azeri studies expert Sargis Asatryan told a news conference in Yerevan when commenting on the forthcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan and their possible outcome.
He noted that Azerbaijan may go for a runoff in order to imitate democratization, but this is very unlikely.
“A khan and clan government principle operates in Azerbaijan. It has stricken deep roots and has become a way of government in that country,” Asatryan said.
According to the expert, inciters emerged at a recent opposition rally in Azerbaijan, making calls in favor of Aliyev and insulting the opposition.
